This Privacy Policy explains how IamItsekiri ("IamItsekiri," "we," "us," or "our") collects, uses, discloses, and protects your personal information when you use the IamItsekiri mobile application, website, and related services (collectively, the "Service").
This Policy should be read together with our Terms and Conditions. By using the Service, you consent to the data practices described here. If you do not agree with this Policy, please do not use the Service.
2. Information We Collect
2.1 Information you provide directly
- Account information: name, email address, phone number, and password, provided when you register and verify your account via OTP.
- Profile information: profile photo, bio, and any other details you choose to add.
- Digital ID information submitted to obtain a community membership credential.
- User Content: posts, comments, photos, videos, and messages you create, upload, or send through community feeds, groups, the gallery, and direct messaging.
- Citizen reports: descriptions, photos, and, if you choose, location data.
- Community program activity, including volunteering registrations.
- SME/business directory information submitted by traders or artisans.
- Contact and support requests submitted through our form or to support@iamitsekiri.app.
2.2 Information collected automatically
- Device and usage data, including device type, operating system, app version, log data, and interactions with the Service.
- Precise or approximate location, if you grant permission, when using features such as citizen reporting. You may disable access in device settings.
- Photos you specifically select for upload after granting photo library permission. We do not access your full library without your action.
2.3 Information from third parties
We use Firebase, a Google service, for authentication, data storage, messaging, and app infrastructure. Firebase may collect certain technical and usage data on our behalf, subject to Google's privacy practices.
3. How We Use Your Information
We do not sell your personal information to third parties.
- Create and manage your account, including verifying your identity via OTP.
- Operate the community feed, groups, messaging, Palace communications, gallery, citizen reporting, Digital ID, community programs, and SME directory.
- Facilitate communication between members.
- Review reports of objectionable content or abusive conduct and enforce our Zero-Tolerance Policy.
- Send OTP codes, security alerts, and opted-in community notifications.
- Detect and prevent fraud, abuse, and violations of our Terms.
- Respond to support requests, improve the Service, analyze usage trends, comply with legal obligations, and enforce our Terms.
4. How We Share Your Information
- With other users, according to each feature's visibility settings.
- With service providers, such as Firebase/Google, that help operate the Service under obligations to protect your data.
- For legal reasons, including a valid legal or governmental request or to protect IamItsekiri, our users, or the public.
- As part of a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, subject to this Policy.
- For another disclosed purpose, with your consent.
5. Data Security
We implement reasonable technical and organizational measures designed to protect your information, including encrypted transmission and infrastructure access controls. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

6. Data Retention
We retain your information while your account is active or as needed to provide the Service, meet legal obligations, resolve disputes, and enforce agreements. If you delete your account, we will delete or anonymize your posts, connections, messages, and profile data, except where retention is legally required or necessary for legitimate business purposes, such as records of Zero-Tolerance Policy enforcement actions.
7. Your Rights and Choices
Depending on your location, you may have rights under applicable data protection law, including the Nigeria Data Protection Act (NDPA) 2023.
- Access the personal information we hold about you.
- Correct inaccurate or incomplete information.
- Delete your information, including by deleting your account.
- Restrict or object to certain processing.
- Withdraw consent without affecting the lawfulness of prior processing.
- Data portability, where applicable.
You can exercise most rights in the app through profile, privacy, blocked or muted account, and deletion settings. For other requests, contact support@iamitsekiri.app. You may also manage location and photo permissions in your device settings.
8. Children's Privacy
The Service is not intended for children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect their personal information. Users aged 13 to 17 may only use the Service with parental or guardian consent. If we learn that a child under 13 provided information without appropriate consent, we will delete it promptly.
9. International Users
The Itsekiri community includes members in Nigeria and the diaspora. If you access the Service outside Nigeria, your information will be processed in Nigeria and/or countries where providers such as Firebase/Google operate, which may have different data protection laws. By using the Service, you consent to this transfer and processing.
10. Location and Photo Permissions
- Location is used to auto-fill details when you submit a citizen report. You may deny or revoke permission at any time.
- Photos are used only when you choose to upload a profile picture, post image, or citizen report or group attachment. We use only the photos you choose to submit.
11. Cookies and Similar Technologies
Our website may use cookies or similar technologies to keep you signed in, remember preferences, and understand usage. You can control cookies through browser settings; disabling them may affect functionality.
12. Third-Party Links and Services
The Service may link to third-party websites or services. This Policy does not apply to them, and we encourage you to review their privacy policies.
13. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Policy from time to time. If we make material changes, we will notify you through the Service or by other reasonable means before they take effect. Continued use after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the revised Policy.
